Sisimuka Uganda, a Local Civil Society Organization founded by social rights’ activist and motivational speaker Frank Gashumba and Ugandans from different political affiliations have today held a press conference at Sheraton Kampala from where; Gashumba threatened a one-million man match.
Speaking to media after the press brief, Gashumba said Government must assign a Magistrate to handle former Presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s complaints on his prolonged house detention. “If they don’t heed our demands, we are going to mobilise a One-Million-Man match and where we shall match to remains our secret,” he said.
Dr. Besigye has since Feburary 20th 2016, immediately after Uganda’s General Elections in which he participated, been restricted from leaving his house. Police claims they had obtained sufficient intelligence that he had plans to destabilize the country, in extension of his ‘DEFIANT’ campaign. The FDC party, to which he is the flag bearer, has however, officially dismissed such plans.
The Press Release
We adore our creator, for the reason that he created us. We further adore our parents for they took care of us. In another way, we respect courts and all the judicial processes for they are a pillar of justice and its ends, where we all run to pursue our inherent rights and their protection.
We are however, threatened of late for our justice volts seem to be bankrupt of justice, while justice delayed is justice denied, and justice must be expeditiously done, for it should further be seen to be done, than merely done.
While all cameras are pointed towards one of the presidential candidate’s election petition, an act of injustice still lags on one presidential candidate. We have kept the grounds for this injustice watered. The Elders Forum and The Inter Religious Council, since the presidential debates, it’s debatable if it has taken a role to cure the injustices in the aftermath of the 2016 Elections.
The Civil Society has been prudent in fighting tooth and nail to join the election petition No.001 of 2016, inclusive of them, are the University law dons. The energy deployed to this petition is in equal measure and magnitude required of them in ensuring justice to all distorted, pessimistic Ugandans in the aftermath of the 2016, elections.
This is a call to reawaken all Ugandans who believe in peace, justice and their inherent individual liberties. The following should be addressed with immediate effect:
- If the church does not recapture its prophetic zeal, it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority. In a moment like this, during the apartheid struggle the religious leaders were at the forefront of the cause. Where are Uganda’s Desmond Tutus?
- If the supreme court with all its nine justices can work seven days a week for almost twenty four hours, to listen to an election petition for a candidate who came third in an election race, why does the chief justice fail to assign a single magistrate to expeditiously attend to Dr. Besigye’s illegal detention of over 31days and the same detention has been further sustained until May 4, 2016.
