RAKAI

A massive hunt is on for suspected car robbers who stormed Lwanda Town in Rakai district and snatched a vehicle registration number UAT 516F belonging to a one Twaha Ssekabembe.

According preliminary police investigations, the robbers are said to have taken the car at around 3:00a.m on Monday morning. “People tend to stop movements in this town at around 2:00 am and these robbers could have waited for this time to take the advantage of people being asleep” said Namujuzi Eva a Mobile money shop attendant in the town.

“I have been doing most of my work from Kampala but I usually come back this way because I also have some Investments to supervise. To my surprise all along I was parking this car in this parking lot and I couldn’t expect such an act” explained the perplexed Twaha.

Twaha added that they expected this car to have been taken across the Mutukula boarder but according to the Police’s report they had not seen this car.

The unknown robbers also managed to pluck out lights from another car Toyota UAR 352S owned by a business Lady known as Juliet also a resident of Lwanda town in Lwanda sub county. This was also in the same parking lot with that of Twaha.

Juliet explained that this was the third time the robbers were plucking out lights from her car and it is as if these people come intentionally to hurt her. She requested the Police to use all its tactics to track down the robbers.

Several residents complained about this continuous robbery stressing that this has retarded development in the area since Investors fear investing in the area especially opening up big shops.

Bisirikirwa Teopista an owner of Livestock Care Veterinary Drug Shop in Lwanda town said that they always have sleepless nights expecting thieves whom they fear can harm them. She also added that most shops close as early as 9:00pm in fear of robbery yet other towns close at Midnight hence limiting their profits.

Jjuuko Vincent a renowned business man in the same area and also a site engineer urged the Police to take the matters serious because if such cases are handled carelessly, this will boost the criminals thinking that they are untouchable’s hence increasing theft in the area.

Jjuuko who has also been constructing Twaha’s building was in great fear as his work was to be on a standstill due to his boss’ loss. “I now expect to spend some good time without working because this is a great loss to my boss” explained Jjuuko.

Namujuzi Eva a Mobile Money agent also argued the citizens to be concerned on such issues but not to always leave such cases to the Police alone. She elaborated that in most cases the residents tend to have a clue on a case but instead keep a deaf ear whenever the police seek witnesses.

She also added that tight security is needed in this town because some time back a transformer was stolen plus an engine which was extracted from a machine of a government dairy farm.

The Police at Lwanda however opened a theft case on SD 02/06/01/2016 and promised to carry out more investigations.
