The Uganda Cranes are set to depart for Rwanda ahead of this weekend’s African Nations Championship (Chan) though constraints of allowances complaints still continue to dog the camp

The 23-man squad flies today aboard Rwanda Air to Rubavu in Rwanda’s Gisenyi province where The Cranes will camp for their Group D preliminary matches against Mali, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Micho has nine defenders in his squad as opposed to six midfielders and five forwards.

The CHAN Squad:

Strikers Frank Kalanda, Robert Ssentongo, Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Erisa Ssekisambu, Caesar Okhuti.

Defenders: Bernard Muwanga, Richard kasagga, Dennis Okot, Joseph Nsubuga, Isaac Muleme, Timothy Awany, Ibrahim Kiyemba, hasssan Dazo, Joseph Ocaya.

Rwandan authorities have closed all substandard restaurants and one hotel frequented by tourists in Rubavu town, about 160 km northwest of the capital, Kigali.

The move is as the country readies to host, from this weekend, the 2016 Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Closed facilities include Stipp Hotel which was earmarked for accommodation of Mali and Zimbabwe national teams in Rubavu.

Other teams taking part in the championship will stay in Kigali and the southern town of Huye.

According to officials in Kigali, this year’s tournament will cost RwF 16 billion (around 214 million dollars) to be disbursed by the Rwandan Government in collaboration with the African Football Confederation

Security beefed up ahead of continental dubby With just a few hours to the official kickoff of the fourth edition of Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), which starts on Saturday (Today),

Rwanda National Police has said public order and safety will be assured.

Rwanda will host 15 African national teams for the three-week tournament, in addition to thousands of people from all over the continent, who will be in the country to enjoy Africa’s second biggest international football event.

RNP spokesperson Celestin Twahirwa revealed that everything is set to ensure that security is guaranteed throughout the tournament. “We have visited and conducted thorough security and risk assessment at all CHAN sites in the county including all the four stadiums, and hotels accommodating the participating teams to ensure their safety,” said Twahirwa.

Twahirwa disclosed that RNP has already deployed its officers at the venues and will also deploy Police units like the fire brigade unit, Canine brigade, and the Public Order and Management unit.

Twahirwa added that, “Celebrations will be allowed but must be held in accordance with the law, and should not interfere with public order.”

Several toll free lines have been availed to ease immediate reporting. The toll free numbers are; 110 in case of water accident specifically for people in Rubavu on the shores of Lake Kivu, 111 for fire brigade, 113 for road accidents. Others are 3511 to report abuse by a police officer, 112 for any emergency, 3512 in case of gender based violence, 997 for any bribe and any other corruption related case, and 116 in case of child abuse.
