The slated coronation of rebel Prince David Kijjanangoma will not take place TOMORROW (December 23) as planned, government has said.
The minister of Gender Labour and Social Development Muruli Mukasa said the parallel coronation would contravene the principle of traditional hierarchy. Mukasa said the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura had been instructed to ensure that ‘NO CORONATION TAKES PLACE”. “He (Kijanangoma) should respect the principles of tradition. We can’t have two kings in one place. He should seek redress in court,” said Muruli Mukasa.
The embattled King of Toro Oyo Nyimba’s plan to have court block the coronation hit a dead end when the Fort Portal court dismissed his application last week. King Oyo had argued through his lawyer David Atuhairwe that he is the legitimate ruler of Toro having succeeded his late father Patrick Olim Kaboyo. However Justice David Batema dismissed the application for wrongful filling prompting King Oyo to seek government intervention. In the application, King Oyo had filed as an individual and not as a kingdom yet he represents interests of Toro Kingdom.
Indeed with just hours to D day, government issued a statement and engaged Prince David Kijanangoma through police to cancel the coronation. Police spokesman earlier on Tuesday said; “no coronation will take place tomorrow (Wednesday December 23).”
But the Investigator has established from Kabarole that prince Kijanangoma for the sake of not spoiling the festive season and avoiding bloodshed decided to cancel the coronation ceremony.
Kijanangoma currently facing trespass case in Fort Portal court accused Oyo of abandoning his subjects in Toro preferring to stay in Kampala. He also accused the King of not controlling his mother Best Kemigisha from interfearing with Kingdom properties.
